Thanks & Farewell to Jamie Vermiglio

Back to Blogs

We are saddened to hear the news that Jamie Vermiglio has left Chorley Football Club and we would like to take this opportunity to put on record our thanks and comments in the following statement.

Jamie has been one of the mainstays at the club for many years, as a player, Assistant Manager and for the past four seasons in charge of the playing squad as Manager. Appointed to this role just before the start of 2018-19 first season, his tenure began with a remarkable 12-match unbeaten run in the National League North. The season itself memorably ended with success in the promotion play-offs and Chorley going up to the top flight of non-league football for the first time in 30 years.

Unfortunately the club’s stay in the National League lasted only one season, and this was followed by a 2020-21 season cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic. It was also during this season though that Jamie – aka ‘Vermo’ – oversaw Chorley’s famous FA Cup run. Having never previously gone beyond the 2nd Round proper, the Magpies beat Wigan Athletic, Peterborough United and Derby County, before falling to a 1-0 defeat at Victory Park in a hard-fought 4th Round tie against Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Latterly, the 2021-22 season saw Chorley once again reach the promotion play-offs, but sadly the campaign ended with a 2-1 defeat at York City, who went on to win promotion to the National League.

All of us at Chorley FC Supporters Trust would like to thank Jamie for his many years of loyal service to the club. We will remember him as a great player and manager here at Victory Park and – equally importantly – as a decent, kind-hearted man who was liked and respected by all and who regularly found time to interact with the Supporters Trust and its members. Articulate, good-humoured and unfailingly courteous and professional, he represented the club in a manner which made all of us very proud.

Thank you for everything, Jamie – and we wish you every success in your future endeavours.
