MATCH PREVIEW | Tamworth

Back to Blogs

After winning the Southern League Premier Division Central on goal difference last season ahead of Coalville, Tamworth have gone from strength to strength to sit on top of the National League North this season, twelve points clear of Scunthorpe United in second.

Tamworth’s third goalless draw of 2024 on Saturday came at Edgar Street, and with Scunthorpe United matching that result earlier in the day away at Scarborough Athletic, it will be seen as another matchday ticked off for the Lambs and one step closer to the title. There’s plenty of football left though, but this evening’s visitors will be buoyed by the fact that no team have beaten them this year so far; in fact, no team has even scored against them, an impressive feat that spans nine games.

Chorley’s 3-0 defeat of Southport on Saturday saw perhaps the Magpies finest 45 minutes this season in that second half, despite the trying conditions. It feels like Preecey’s squad are just starting to work up into a groove. This will be Chorley’s fourth Tuesday night fixture in a row and with the pitch looking more than a little tired at five o’clock on Saturday, there will be plenty of intrigue on Tuesday night to surely pull the punters in to Victory Park.

Tamworth’s playing record in the Southern League Premier Division Central for 2022/23 was:

1st.Played: 42. Won: 27. Draw: 8. Lost: 7. Goals For: 93. Goals Against: 40.Points: 89.
