MATCH PREVIEW | Spennymoor Town

Back to Blogs

On Saturday, many eyes were turned as much to the off-field events at Victory Park as they were to the field of play where Chorley’s best FA Trophy run in a decade came to an end at the hands of a strong Solihull Moors side. When Moors took the lead inside two minutes many feared the worst, but Preece’s potted side – racked by illness and injury – composed themselves and were not embarrassed by their National League opponents. It was by no means a pretty or gripping game, but there was positives to take from the manner in which the Magpies sought to keep themselves in the contest, despite being 0-3 down. The visiting keeper Nick Hayes made a number of excellent stops in both halves before a consolation from Mark Ellis arrived with nearly the last kick of the game.

Our attention now returns to the National League North, our third Tuesday evening fixture in a row, and an altogether different Moors side for are-take of our abandoned fixture on December 30. Sitting in eighteenth, Moors fans have been looking over their shoulders all season but a home draw with Peterborough Sports and an away victory at Southport, 1-2, in their last two fixtures have been encouraging. They’ll be looking to take that confidence into this evening’s match.

Spennymoor Town’s playing record in the National League North for 2022/23 was:

9th. Played: 46. Won: 18. Draw: 14. Lost: 14. Goals For: 68. Goals Against: 67. Points: 68.
