This was a tight game of few chances against a Lancaster side featuring ex-League players Phil Clarkson (Blackpool) and Kenny Irons (Tranmere) as well as a fair few former Southport players brought along by new boss Phil Wilson. The first half was played out mostly in midfield, where Bobby Jones and Danny Mills worked hard and looked strong. Eatock also looked sharp on the right wing.
The second half saw the introduction of Boothby, a young ball-playing centre back who looks well capable of playing at this level. Gareth Thomas played a competent half at right back, with Varley again on the left. Bold played the second half, whilst Wes Huggins, Craig Vermiglio and Gary Hartford, the ponytailed front player, all had a run out.
